I Ride Because I CAN

8 years after being treated for Stage I breast cancer…

5 years after cycling the first Mamma Jamma ride…

3 years after being diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer…
My husband Mark and I will be cycling in the sixth annual Mamma Jamma Ride. We have participated in every ride so far. Over the past 5 years, we have raised more than $20,000 and have honored more than 250 individuals by carrying their names on my bike flag. We ride in part to show that it is possible to survive breast cancer, live with breast cancer, and thrive in spite of breast cancer! But mostly we ride to raise funds for 10 local charities that benefit breast cancer patients, survivors, and their families.Ann's Bike Flag 2012

This event is personal for us: My Mom had breast cancer and died at the age of 29 (when I was 3), a number of friends have had breast cancer (and I’m happy to report that many of them are doing GREAT several years after treatment), and my own fight continues daily. I ride because the cause is important, because I CAN, and because I know that many, many lives are touched by this disease.

Please help us support individuals and families facing breast cancer by making a tax deductible donation to the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride. The money raised is used to help people in our local community with things like paying for treatment, patient navigation, support groups, exercise and nutrition classes for survivors, volunteers who will help around the house while someone with breast cancer is in treatment or recovering, help paying for rent and electricity or COBRA if a person loses their job because they got sick, counselling for the children of a parent with breast cancer to help them cope with mom or dad being sick.

Please join us in making a difference for everyone facing this breast cancer on September 27th. There are lots of ways to help. You can ride with me, make a donation, volunteer, and share this article. We need you. Please do what you can!
