The same day Michelle Sharer-Clinton was diagnosed with stage IIIA breast cancer, she asked the Breast Cancer Resource Center if they could refer her to someone who worked with children of cancer patients. They told her about Wonders & Worries and she made the call.
After their first meeting with child life specialist Lexi, Michelle’s boys asked if they could see her every day. Lexi read them books about children in the same situation, and they met others at Wonders & Worries family fun events. When Michelle lost her hair, when her skin turned a grayish color, and she had to have a mastectomy, she knew Lexi was helping her “little men” to understand what was happening to their mother.
Michelle and her children enjoyed the books and the holiday festivals, but more importantly, Michelle appreciated Lexi’s ability to calm her sons’ fears. “Their big hearts and knowledge helped me and my children get through a difficult time,” she says.
Your support of the Mamma Jamma Ride helps fund Wonders & Worries and their work to support children coping through a parent’s serious illness. Wonders & Worries volunteers will run SAG for Training Ride #5 on Sunday, July 12th. Come out and meet them!
