The Texas Mamma Jamma Ride is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping families in our local community facing breast cancer. Our amazing community of cyclists, volunteers, sponsors, and beneficiary organizations come together each year to raise funds and participate in one of the best supported and most fun bike rides in Texas. Together, we have raised more than 2.6 million dollars since 2009 to help save and improve the lives of those facing breast cancer.
In 2009, a group of individuals noticed some disturbing trends in breast cancer statistics. More younger people were being diagnosed and more people who had previously been treated were being re-diagnosed with Stage IV, sometimes years after their initial treatment. Also, because of improvements in treatments, Stage IV patients were living longer and needed ongoing treatment and services. The organizations helping these patients were seeing increasing demands for their services and needed additional funding.
The Mamma Jamma Founders were determined to grow the pool of funds available to local organizations to insure that people in Austin and the surrounding communities have access to the care and support they need to face breast cancer. So they created the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride. Modeled after the Hill Country Ride for AIDS, each organization benefiting from the ride pitched in a percentage of the seed money needed to start the ride. Each year, they help provide resources and volunteers for the ride and help insure the success of the event. At the end of the year, all the net proceeds from the ride are distributed to the beneficiary organizations to help those facing breast cancer.
Jenny wears so many hats it’s surprising she isn’t wearing one in this picture! She was president of Capital of Texas Team Survivor for 7 years, worked at Specialized Bicycles helping them bring awesome cycling equipment to the world and now she’s a Project Manager at Dell, treasurer of the Mamma Jamma Ride, and a key leader on our training ride team. When Jenny isn’t being awesome at work or helping people with cancer, she can be found riding her bike with her beautiful little girl in tow.
