Summer Maulden: Participant Profile

“Over the years, I’ve had best friends and family who have received the terrible diagnosis of breast cancer. In addition to being supportive and documenting their story as a photographer, I also began to think of other things I could do to support them. I began by walking, riding and getting the word out to support and raise money for those suffering the awful effects of cancer. I was very excited to learn about the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride and I am continuously overjoyed by the happiness and support that surrounds the entire event. Getting to spend time with some of the breast cancer survivors on those pit stops inspires us all to keep riding. If they can do it, I sure as heck can!

This year, when the Mamma Jamma ride changed to a format where we each got to choose our miles and our activities, I told myself I signed up for a 45 mile ride so I am doing 45 miles. I ended up riding 50 miles that day. All of our group ended up exceeding our individual goals. It was amazing, and I was so proud of everyone on our team for their dedication to ride and raise money. I have been a Big Wig every year, which is a celebration of the amount of funding I’ve raised for the programs that the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride supports, and I strive to reach that mark at each ride. “ - Summer Maulden
