Thank you, and keep rolling!
Hello, Friends of Mamma Jamma!
I hope everyone's had a good weekend of recovery, after being so amazing on Saturday! Hopefully, in the last two days, you've given a thought to what you did Saturday.
Bikes can be amazing things, practical or chosen transportation that can bring freedom, health, accessibility, joy, and a means to help others. And, in those shared experiences, there is community.
On Saturday, for the 16th year, our community gathered again, and together, we braved together the heat and wind, (and those dastardly five extra miles on the 50-miler).
We shared camaraderie, rode with friends, remembered and honored fighters, those lost, and those that have survived.
We rode alongside Carla Hoffman, back just months after a devastating accident, to ride 50 miles, proving that her beliefs in cycling, and the community of cycling, and the cause of the fight against breast cancer, are unwavering.
We shared moments of silence for, and carried in our hearts Marcos Rodriguez, who ardently championed the community of cycling, and its power to wield power where we so often feel we do not have control.
And we did all that, and more, while riding to support the life-saving work of the Big Pink Bus.
We are at over $250,000 raised, with sponsor and fundraising dollars still coming in, but while the miles are behind us, there is much work ahead of us. Fundraising doesn’t end until November 30, so we are all going to work together to reach $400,000. That number is by no means a forecast. It is a finish line that will take work from all of us to reach.
Meanwhile, if you love this ride, and/or what it could be, then one of the most important things you can do today is complete the rider survey.
There is so much more good that the ride can do, and we want your guidance as we make changes and innovations, and do the work to retain riders and sponsors, and to bring in many more.
And, we can’t make Septembers cooler, but… November...
Many of us felt beaten at some point on Saturday, in the heat, with a long hill stretching into the distance ahead, the wind in our face. And we pressed on, as long as we could.
We are ready, as you hopefully are, to press on and stick with the Mamma Jamma Ride - not just one of the surviving, but one of the greatest Central Texas charity bike rides, fighting to bring affordable, accessible, life-saving mammograms to Central Texas women.
We will also try to make the 50-mile ride closer to 50 miles.
Thank you for your commitment, your fundraising work, your time, your sweat, your compassion, love, good cheer, and community. We will ride together again.
With love for you, the good fight, and bikes,
Rob, and the entire Mamma Jamma and Lone Star Circle of Care teams.
