Tuesday Tips: Who and How to Ask for Donations

Welcome to this week’s Tuesday Tip all about who and how to ask for donations. Asking for donations does not come naturally to everyone and that’s okay! Here are some quick and easy ways to determine who to ask for donations and how to ask them to support the cause.

Make a List:
Think of your list like an onion with layers. The closer someone is to your core, the more likely to give and the easier it will be to build up a good foundation of donations. Studies show that the closer you are to your goal, the more likely people are to donate. So, when your “outer layers” of friends see traction on your fundraising efforts, the more they will be willing to give.

⦁ Layer 1: Your core group – This includes 5-10 of your immediate family and best friends.

⦁ Layer 2: Your good friends – This is a list of 5-10 of your close contacts. This list could include your closest colleagues and good friends.

⦁ Layer 3: Everyone else in your address book - This includes any contacts you feel comfortable asking such as hairdressers, financial planners, former colleagues, and friends.

⦁ Layer 4: Social Media - Promote your fundraising on social media to cast a wide net.

Make the Ask:
When creating your fundraising asks to your layers, do the following things:

1) Describe your connection to the cause.

2) Share how the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride supports the mission of the Big Pink Bus. Early detection of breast cancer saves lives!

3) Ask for the donation in a clear and simple way.

4) It’s very important to include your Classy fundraising link in your communications! Here is how to share your link.

Make a Plan:

Use the following guide of when to send your emails out to your layers:

⦁ Email 1: Start with your first “layer” of your list. Send a personalized individual email to the top 5-10 closest people on your list.

⦁ Email 2: Send a second email to your good friends.

⦁ Email 3: Send an email to everyone else.

⦁ Post your fundraising link and connection to the cause to social media. Don’t forget to tag @MammaJammaRide in your posts.

Remember, the fundraising minimum to participate on ride day is $300 and $1000 will get you to Big Wig status! Big Wigs earn special Ride Day perks like VIP parking and free massage, along with the exclusive 2022 Big Wig Jersey! Good luck with your fundraising efforts!
