Becky Arreaga: Rider Profile

Family and friendship is the driving force for many who ride for Texas Mamma Jamma. Shared experiences, solidarity and support of loved ones makes Mamma Jamma a yearly requirement for survivor, Becky Arreaga. Becky rode with friends and for fun before battling breast cancer herself, and she continues to ride for friends who fight on!

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I am a 22-year Austin resident by way of San Antonio. I am the co-owner, along with my sister Liz, of an insurance agency. We opened the Arreaga Agency - Farmers Insurance a year ago. Prior to that, I was one of the founders of Mercury Mambo, a multicultural marketing agency. If you follow me on Instagram (@instabex), you have met my fur babies, brothers Brodie & Blue. These pups had me at hello and continue to bring me joy and sanity in these crazy days.

Why do you ride and fundraise for the Texas Mamma Jamma ride?

I rode in the inaugural ride and have been riding, SAGing (supporting rides), fundraising ever since. I originally participated for the friends and fun that the ride delivered. The Mamma Jamma team has always been singularly focused on delivering a great rider experience. As the years rolled on (pardon the pun) a few friends were diagnosed with breast cancer, so I then began riding for them. Six years ago both my mother and I were diagnosed. So now, I ride, support, and fundraise with a sense of duty and responsibility.

Who do you ride for and who do you ride with?

I ride for my mom, my friend Brandi Nelson who I call my "upside to cancer" as I met her during our radiation treatments, Ginger Leigh, Lynn Yeldell who just finished up treatment, Jodi Vargas who looked me in the eyes and said it's going to be ok, and I ride for friends across the country that are impacted. I ride with Team F3, alongside my sister Liz and a crew of dedicated friends.

What do you love most about the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride?

The true sense of community that you feel from the staff, the other riders, the supporters and the city of Martindale.

What will you be sure to take with you on the ride?

A smile. Regardless of how hard it is to get up that hill!
